  • Lesson 4

(The lesson 4 discussion question isn’t added to this course, so I’m posting my response here.)

The aspects of the instructional design process that would motivate me to be an instructional designer are the opportunities to learn from SME’s (analysis) and to engage creatively to see an idea come to life (design & develop).

  • 1. I see myself using ADDIE as the foundational model because it is similar to the backwards design concept (focusing on the objectives first) used in teaching, and it simultaneously provides a framework that is specific to planning and managing instructional design projects. I would weave in Blooms, Gagne’s 9, and MPI where they naturally fit to ensure the actual lesson is engaging and effective.

    2. The model I am least likely to use is Dick and Carey’s. While there are deadlines for implementation of an ID project, the final product is part of a recursive process of growth and adaptation. Therefore evaluations are formative not summative.

  • 1. The easiest part of ADDIE to implement would most likely be the first step, analysis, because that is the part where I would get to learn by talking with experts as well as and finding out from the organization and students what their needs are, then synthesizing everything into a proposal that meets all stakeholders’ needs. That’s the fun part.

    2. The hardest part of ADDIE to implement would be the development. Whenever I had to do a research paper, I loved the research, and I loved revising and crafting the finished product, but the writing was my least favorite.

  • 1. I would be an instructional designer because I like the learning process involved in talking to SME’s. I would also be able to incorporate essential elements of learning experience design.

    2. My second choice would be learning experience design because I like the idea of making the learning learner-centered and making the experience as good as possible. I would not want to be an instructional technologist.
