Short Bio:

I was born in El Paso, Texas when my father was stationed at Ft. Bliss, and I grew up in Titusville, Florida. I graduated from Astronaut High School in 1987 and joined the Army soon thereafter as a military policeman. While in the Army I have lived throughout the United States and for 5 years in Germany, and I've deployed overseas to Haiti, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cuba, and Afghanistan. — I've specialized in developing and evaluating tactical training and mentoring junior soldiers and leaders who are deploying in support of overseas contingency operations, with my latest job overseeing the training and operations section as the operations sergeant major for a training support brigade at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. — I've worked outside of the Army as a police officer, detective, armed security guard at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and as both a resort concierge and security cast member at Walt Disney World. I graduated in 2006 from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor's degree in history and a bachelor's degree in political science/international relations. — I am married to my beautiful wife Anne and we have 8 children and 9 grandchildren (with 2 on the way). I am preparing to retire from the Army with a total of 32 years of service. I've been a Florida-certified teacher since 2014 in Osceola County, Florida. I've taught U.S. civics, world history, character development, world history, and an introductory course for high school social sciences. — I was a guest lecturer at the 2018 Kennedy Space Center Space Port Area Conference for Educators (SPACE), where I facilitated a well-received presentation and hands on activity titled "Mars: Where Social Meets Science" that explored cross-curricular education resourcing and lesson planning for K-12 and informal educators. I've been invited once again to lecture at the 2019 SPACE conference. — I am a current graduate student who's pursuing a master's degree in learning design and technology from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In 2018 I completed a MicroMasters program through UMUC on edX in Instructional Design and Technology. — I am interested in designing and developing quality eLearning and blended learning courses that are adaptable, interactive, and that can reach a diverse student population using open education resources. I passionately believe that all children deserve equitable and quality education, regardless of their location or their parents' income, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
